DIOPTSASE Best related to Dioptase Links: www.galleries.com - Dioptase is a very beautiful mineral and it is one of the few minerals that can challenge the peerlessness of emerald's deep green. Unfortunately it is rather soft (for a gemstone) and has good cleavage and therefore is not usually cut as a gemstone. The mineral specimens that dioptase produces, however, are truly a treasure for anyone that likes deep green colors. Dioptase is one of the few silicates to crystallize in the same symmetry class as dolomite and forms crystals that can have a typical carbonates' rhombohedral shape. Dioptase shares this symmetry with the typically ice clear silicate phenakite and the fluorescent but rarely well crystallized willemite.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dioptase - Dioptase is a very rare mineral found mostly in desert regions were it forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of copper sulfide mineral deposits. However, the process of its formation is not simple, the oxidation of copper sulfides should be insufficient to crystallize dioptase as silica is normally minutely soluble in water except at highly alkaline pH. The oxidation of sulfides will generate highly acidic fluids rich in sulfuric acid that should suppress silica solubility. However, in dry climates and with enough time, especially in areas of a mineral deposit where acids are buffered by carbonate, minute quantities of silica may react with dissolved copper forming dioptase and chrysocolla.... www.designjewel.com - Fancy: Dioptase is believed to relieve mental stress, promote abundance, relaxation, love and emotional expressiveness.... www.majestic-quartz.com - Dioptase makes a great elixir which is good for amplifying other crystals and letting the energy flow smoothly through your body's systems. Dioptase is found in Russia and Namibia. (this mine has closed) It forms in beautiful bright emerald green color.... www.answers.com - Tests Crystals dull in hydrochloric acid; decrepitate, blacken, and give water in closed tube; turn brown on charcoal, without fusing.... www.1911encyclopedia.org - DIOPTASE, a rare mineral species consisting of acid copper orthosilicate, H2CuSiO4, crystallizing in the parallel-faced hemihedral class of the rhombohedral system. The degree of sym~ metry is the same as in the mineral phenacite, - there being orly ar axis of triad symmetry .: r and a centre of symmetry. The crystals ,-~ have the form of a hexagonal prism in terminated.... |
